Surrey Business School is an internationally connected, research-led business school committed to developing responsible, enterprising and future-ready leaders. Guided by our strategy, Incubating Vibrant Futures 2024–2030, we bring together progressive education, transformational research and meaningful engagement with business, policy and society.
Our academic community spans five disciplines: Management; Strategy, Marketing and International Business; Entrepreneurship and Innovation; Finance and Accounting; and Surrey Hospitality and Tourism Management. Together, they create a distinctive interdisciplinary environment for research and education across areas including digital innovation and AI, business analytics, the future of work, strategy, international business, entrepreneurship, leadership, finance, operations, responsible business, and hospitality and tourism.
The School is accredited by AACSB, AMBA and the Small Business Charter, and holds an Advance HE Athena SWAN Bronze Award. It is ranked among the world's top 75 institutions for Management (Top 10 in the UK) and top 100 for Business Administration (Top 20 in the UK) in the Shanghai Global Rankings (2026). In REF 2021, Surrey Business School was ranked 19th in the UK overall, 10th for research outputs and 16th for research impact.
Digital innovation and AI are central to the School's research and innovation ecosystem. Our flagship centre in Digital Economy and AI brings together scholars across disciplines to examine and shape the implications of technological change for organisations, markets, consumers and society. Located in Guildford, with close access to London and the South East's dynamic business and innovation ecosystem, the School works with employers, entrepreneurs, policymakers and international partners to connect research and education to real-world challenges.
The Finance and Accounting Discipline delivers research and education across core and emerging areas of finance, banking, accounting and financial decision-making. It is committed to rigorous, internationally relevant scholarship that informs business practice, policy and the development of responsible financial systems.
The Discipline contributes across undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA and doctoral education, preparing students to understand and lead in a financial landscape increasingly shaped by competition and innovation, data, digital platforms, artificial intelligence, regulation and sustainability. Its members maintain strong international collaborations and engage actively with policymakers and practitioners, including the Bank of England, OECD, World Bank, NATO, the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the European Parliament.
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Professor of Finance with expertise in Financial Technology (FinTech). This is a strategic appointment with the opportunity to establish and lead a distinctive programme of research and innovation at the intersection of finance, digital technologies and AI.
The successful candidate will be an internationally recognised scholar with a sustained record of high-quality, field-advancing research, demonstrated academic leadership and the ability to set an ambitious intellectual agenda in FinTech. We welcome expertise across areas such as digital financial services and new business models; financial inclusion and access to services; competition and financial stability; regulation and risk; AI and machine learning in finance; blockchain and distributed technologies; sustainable finance or related fields.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the development of Surrey Business School's research capacity and external profile in FinTech, and playing a central role in strengthening the School's flagship centre in Digital Economy and AI.
Developing interdisciplinary collaborations across finance, business, computer science, engineering, law, data science and relevant areas of the University.
Developing and leading significant external funding bids in collaboration with colleagues within the Discipline, School and University, and with industry, public-sector and international partners, building a strong funding pipeline aligned with the UK Industrial Strategy's growth-driving sectors (particularly Financial Services and Digital and Technologies).
Providing intellectual leadership within the Finance and Accounting Discipline and contributing actively to the development of colleagues, including supporting and mentoring early career researchers, building interdisciplinary teams, and developing a vibrant doctoral community through the recruitment, supervision and development of PhD and professional doctorate researchers.
Contributing to senior academic leadership in education, including the development of distinctive finance and FinTech provision across undergraduate, postgraduate, executive and doctoral programmes, bringing an engaging, inclusive and research-informed approach to teaching.
Connecting ambitious research with real-world relevance, building productive external partnerships and helping position Surrey as a recognised centre of excellence in FinTech.
We are committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equitable opportunities for all. We place great value on diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds, particularly encouraging applications from under-represented groups, such as people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with disabilities. Appointments will always be made on merit.
